         Special Congratulations to

Will Shipley for being named the

NC Gatorade Player of the Year

for his prodigious football ability, academic achievements,

and fierce competitiveness/ work ethic. In addition to his impeccable character,

Will values the importance of his teammates, classmates, and our community and we were truly humbled when Will contributed his $1,000 financial reward for his

Gatorade Player of the Year to WCWAA.

WCWAA would like to congratulate

Coach Capone and the Weddington Warriors who won the 2019 3AA State Championship

for the second consecutive year!

Will Shipley was named Offensive MVP & Overall MVP

with teammate, Alec Mock, named as Defensive MVP.

Several of these young players began their football careers at WCWAA playing Pop Warner Football and we are proud to acknowledge their accomplishments.

In the 2018 win, Will’s older brother, James Shipley (Class of 2019 now attending the University of Pennsylvania) was the overall MVP,

Whitner Litton (Class of 2019 now attending the Virginia Military Institute) was the Offensive MVP

Eamon Murphy (Class of 2019 now attending the West Point) was the Defensive MVP.

Each of these young men are also now playing collegiate Lacrosse.

Many of these young men & their families have also been members of WCWAA in our football, basketball, soccer, lacrosse, baseball, & soccer programs.

The 2020 Weddington Team also included 6 players from our 2015 Titans Pop Warner Team that made it to the

Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship including:

Malik Mustapha – Starting Safety

Jalen Newman – Starting Corner

Will Owens – Starting Offensive Tackle

Will Shipley – Starting Running Back

Grady Brosterhous – Reserve Quarterback

Trey Gordan – Reserve Running Back

We are extremely proud of these athletes and many others who got their start at WCWAA and are spread across Union and Mecklenburg Counties.

Special Congratulations to Will Shipley for being named the

NC Gatorade Player of the Year

for his prodigious football ability, academic achievements, and fierce competitiveness/ work ethic. In addition to his impeccable character, Will values the importance of his teammates, classmates, and our community and we were truly humbled when Will contributed his $1,000 financial reward for his Gatorade Player of the Year to WCWAA.

Special Thanks to the many volunteer Coaches who make our sports team competitive and serve as role models for our developing athletes.

One such example is Chris Morales who played for James Shipley and Mike Newman’s Titans Pop Warner Team where he developed his love for the game.  Chris continued to work on his football skills, got the chance to play on the Varsity squad & made the roster for the playoffs this year. Chris’ dream to play the game (as well as many others) was made possible through his start at WCWAA.

There have been many mentors for these two Championship teams and we would like to recognize several past and current coaches directly involved in building and shaping these young folks: James and Tammy Shipley, Mike and Nakia Newman, Matt Macia, Dennis DiCarlo, Dave Niemeyer, Jason and Ashleigh Mock, Butch Foley, James Hyatt, and many more to whom our community thanks.

We also have the cycle starting again as our graduates, like Anthony Boone, (former Weddington and Duke University Quarterback) returns home to mentor our future leaders.

Finally, we would like to recognize Alan and Jan Williams for the commitment of their time to our young people. Sadly, we lost Alan last year, and while our hearts are heavy, we are comforted by his legacy embodied by the success of the young folks he coached.

Please join us in congratulating Will, his teammates, and the volunteers who give their time to our programs and are our community’s future through our youth.

Lastly, WCWAA is in the middle of a campaign to begin much needed maintenance repairs to our 12 yr old turf field.

Please consider following Will Shipley’s lead and consider a small donation to help with repairs so that we can continue to offer the same opportunities for our youth for years to come.

WCWAA SAFETY ISSUE REMINDER!
by posted 11/11/2019

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO OUR MEMBERS!

We have a STOP SIGN at the LOWER SOCCER ENTRANCE where Soccer Players and Families cross to get to the new TURF FIELDS.

It has come to our attention that many of our members entering and leaving the park thru the lower soccer entrance are

NOT STOPPING for the STOP SIGN.

With the time change and it getting dark earlier, this is even more of

A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE.

Please be aware of this STOP SIGN and STOP to allow players and families to cross.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR COOPERATION !
